Coronavirus and New College of Florida
On March 17th 2020, the State University System Board of Governors (BOG) has instructed all state universities including New College of Florida to extend online classes to the end of the spring semester. Face-to-face classes will not resume until next August. The BOG also cancelled in-person Commencement ceremonies in May. This decision was not made lightly, but it does affect students immensely. Some students had left for Spring Break around March 14th, not knowing that they would not be able to come back to campus. Students who remained on campus for spring break were asked to leave campus by Friday March 20th. Classes are scheduled to start Monday, March 23rd online for the rest of the semester. The school system and faculty are working hard to make sure the students finish their semester and their thesis. Many of the planning that New College needs to do is told to them by the state university system. New College of Florida is doing everything in their power to ensure that this challenging experience is easier for students and for faculty.
The Counceling and Wellness Center will still be available to students who are remaining in Florida with online services. The library is still open with limited hours and with limited entry.
The school is asking that people look into donating to New College’s Emergency Fund. Students can apply to this fund if they are in need of monetary help for traveling expenses, school supplies and more during this challenging situation. For anyone who would like to donate to New College of Florida’s emergency fund here is the link to their website.
